Despite the focus on streaming numbers these days, radio airplay is still critical for success, especially independent artists who are seeking wider exposure and audience expansion. Believe it or not, eighty percent of Americans hear radio content at least once a week! (statista.com, "U.S. Radio Industry - Statistics and Facts")
Today, a massive amount of radio stations have introduced a streaming format on platforms such as I Heart Radio, which makes their content even more accessible from anywhere around the world. Record companies invest time and money into promoting an artist's new song and asking the radio station to add it to their playlist. However, adding a song to their playlist doesn't guarantee airtime/spins. That's where we come in and make some noise by letting the stations know what we want to hear!
Let's get "Pay & Display" the airtime it deserves. Will you help us contact radio stations by using the link at the top of this blog post and asking them to play "Pay & Display"?
Almost all of these stations have text numbers/emails/online request forms/social media pages, so if picking up the phone and speaking to someone isn't your jam, have no fear. You don't even have to be a regular listener of the stations you contact. All it takes is a few minutes each day to make a big impact. What’s up? I’m stoked to hang out with you each month as a part of this podcast!
I’ve been active in the Lovejoy online community since fall of 2022. I joined in order to get the latest touring dates and music drops, and discovered a desire to “pay it forward” by providing a positive, reassuring influence in a young fanbase. Hopefully I’ve been successful! I’ve been fortunate enough to find my fellow “elder” Lovenjoyers and forge lifelong friendships as a result.
In September of 2024, I took the reins of the Lovejoy Wiki Fandom site (shameless plug: link below, check it out). This repository of Lovejoy information had been collecting dust for a year, so I’m grateful for the opportunity to give it a major makeover. Wikis, by nature, are a community effort, and there’s still so much to do, so please reach out if you want to help – I’d love to have you on the team!
Planning creative ways to reach and connect with people is one of my jams. In a previous (and somewhat more professional) era of my life, I wrote and edited a quarterly, nationwide publication related to the dairy industry. (This is probably where I tell you that I live in the Land of Cheese, aka Wisconsin - I am thankful that Lovejoy seems to like nearby Milwaukee.)
Lately, I’m busy with stuff like chauffeuring my 13-year-old to bass guitar and karate lessons, preparing for my 18-year-old’s graduation, planning the occasional family vacation, and all the other details that come with trying to keep our family of four semi-organized.
